What We Believe
We are a Christian Church from the Stone Campbell Restoration Movement. We do not belong to a denomination but are unified with other Christian Churches that seek New Testament Christianity. We are Christians only, but not the only Christians. Our local congregation is Elder-led, under the authority of Christ. We practice weekly, open communion for all believers as the center of our worship service.
We believe in the unity of all believers on the common ground of commitment and obedience to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We do not submit to creeds written by humans, but we submit to the authority of the inspired Word of God, the Bible. We believe in the essentials of faith that all Christians should be unified, in the non-essentials we extend liberty, and in all things love, represented in God’s love. The following statements are foundational doctrines based on our understanding of Scripture.
We believe that there is one God, creator of the universe, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that we are called to live to the praise of His glory.
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative word of God.
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His death and atonement through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and on the Day of the Lord, He will return to restore all things back to the goodness of God.
We believe the only terms of salvation that we may proclaim are those expressed in the New Testament: faith, repentance, and confession in Jesus Christ, and baptism by immersion in water for the remission of sin and for the promised presence of the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life, and by whom the church is empowered to carry out Christ’s Great Commission.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of those who are saved unto the resurrection of life eternal.
Biblical marriage is a representation of Christ’s relationship to the Church. Christ’s sacrificial, steadfast love displays a model for marriage to serve your spouse in a manner that is loving and respectful. Marriage is between a male and a female as the two become one flesh.
Mission and Vision
Mission:
Disciples Making Disciples
Values:
Discipleship Path
Multigenerational Worship
Church Family
Vision:
We envision a clear, intentional Discipleship Path as the process of developing fully committed followers of Christ, including Invite, Welcome, Equip, and Send. Our hope is that every person in our church walks this path, matures, then walks with others around the path.
We envision a faithful, vibrant, multigenerational church that is countercultural to the world in the way that each generation seeks to serve the others and put others needs before their own. Instead of complaining about our differences, we will build bridges to become more mature disciples of Jesus, encouraging each other, building each other up and worshiping God together.
We envision the embracing of a loving, authentic Church Family, unified in Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Accepting that it will be messy, we are on a journey together to learn to forgive like Jesus and live a life of transformative repentance and grace.
The Discipleship Path
Everything at the church is based on the Discipleship Path to aid the mission of "Disciples Making Disciples." The Discipleship Path is modeled after Ephesians 4, "equipping the saints for ministry" and the disciple making church model found in 1&2 Timothy.
Everyone has a place on the Discipleship Path to grow in your faith and serve God faithfully.
In boxes are our ministry teams that exists to help people along the Discipleship Path.
Our History
Oak Grove Christian Church is a local, independent church in Oak Grove, Missouri. We have been here since 1879 as a community of Christians with a desire to make disciples of Jesus and serve our city. We consider it an honor and a privilege to serve this region for so long, and we are excited for the future God has in store for us here! We are from the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement that claims no name but Christ and no creed but the Bible. In the Essentials of Faith, we have unity; in the non-essential, we have liberty; and in all things LOVE.
The first home of OGCC with the steeple was built in 1880 on SE 12th St.
In 1909, the church moved across the street in what is now called "The Old Stone Church." The structure still stands today.
The current church building at 118 SW 22nd St. has been our home since 1967 with expansions made in 1984.
